PRIMARY LIFE

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING –  (Aghana – Age 11 Years)

As the vibrant sun rose above the horizon, beams of sunlight shone from every direction, casting a warm, golden hue over the harbour.  Seagulls soared gracefully overhead, their screeching calls blending with the distant hum of activity.  At the waters edge, waves lapped gently against the wooden pylons as it started to bubble with excitement.  The wind whistled a soft melody while clouds drifted aimlessly in the cerulean sky.  The smell of the salty water wafted in the air.  Rustic fishing boats bobbed lazily in the water; their hulls adorned with intricate designs.  Fishermen bustled around the area, their weathered faces creased with smiles and laughter as they unloaded.  Baskets were filled with silvery fish, their sales shimmering in the fading light.

Further down the harbour, sailboats glided elegantly across the water, their sails illuminated by the golden rays at sunlight.  Families and tourists ambled along the seafront, their footsteps echoing against it.

As the evening descended, the sky became a dark blue.  Soft, twinkling lights flickered to life, casting a warm glow over the water and reflecting in the shimmering ripples.

Shadows danced playfully along the quay, adding to the sense of magic and mystery that hung in the air.

The air was thick with smoke, but the smell of popcorn and cotton candy wafted strongly in the air.  The moon rose high into the sky as the sparkling stars shone all their light into the scene below.  They marvelled at the dazzling lights of the Ferris-wheel, the hypnotic spins of the carousel and the thrilling screams from the rollercoaster, until Lily noticed something strange.

While on the Ferris-wheel, Lily found herself stuck at the very top, the ride having mysteriously halted.  As she looked down at the carnival below, shadows darted between the tents, moving in ways that didn’t match the bustling crowd.  When the Ferris-wheel finally started again, she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that something was amiss.

After hearing this, the friends decided to visit the Oracle.  Four flights up the stairs ended under a green trap door.  Pulling the cord, Sam, Lily, Jake and Mia entered.  The door swung open, and a wooden ladder clattered into place.  The warm air from above smelled like mildew and rotten wood.  By the window, sitting on a wooden tripod stool, was the most gruesome memento of all – a mummy.  Suddenly, green mist swirled around the group as the more it swirled, the more thickly it got.  It was then… (to be continued)
