Online Safety
Online Safety
At Phoenix Community College e-safety is important to us all. Students cover topics in KS3 PSHE lessons in all year groups and via their form tutor during registration periods at regular intervals during the academic year. There is a whole school focus on e-safety during our annual Safer Internet Day; this year’s theme will be ‘Respect & Relationships online.’
It’s a fact that young people are growing up in a technologically rich world. But with new opportunities, come some risks. It is important that we make children aware of the risks and encourage them to adopt appropriate patterns of behaviour when using ICT. With this in mind, our students read and sign up to our Acceptable Use policy when they start with Phoenix. This Policy is visible to them at Students as well as Parents Portal.
Please look at some very useful resources to help parents and students with online safety.
Check out these CEOP videos which give tips on cyber security and sharing images.
CEOP is a law enforcement agency which exists to keep children and young people safe from sexual exploitation and abuse. They are there to help and give you advice and you can make a report directly to them if something has happened online, which has made you feel unsafe, scared or worried. This might be from someone you know in real life, or someone you have only ever met online. They take all reports seriously and will do everything they can to keep you safe.

UK Safer Internet Centre
The UK Safer Internet Centre is a partnership of three leading organisations with one mission – to make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people. It has three main functions:-
An Awareness Centre – to provide advice and support to children and young people, parents and carers, schools and the children’s workforce. The Centre also coordinates Safer Internet Day across UK.
A Helpline – to provide support to professionals working with children and young people with online safety issues.
A Hotline – an anonymous and safe place to report and remove child abuse imagery and videos, wherever they are found in the world
Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Safer Internet Day is now celebrated in approximately 200 countries and territories worldwide. Here at Phoenix we take part in Safer Internet Day annually.
From cyberbullying to social networking to digital identity, the aims of each Safer Internet Day is to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
Safer Internet Day 2025 will take place on Tuesday 11th February 2025.
